Joel Madden Career

Madden formed his first band with his brother Benji and a friend when he was 16 years old. The band didn’t last long, so the Maddens formed another with their high school friends, Paul Thomas, Aaron Escolopio, and Billy Martin. ‘Good Charlotte’ became the name of this band. Carol Beach York’s children’s book ‘Good Charlotte: Girls of the Good Day Orphanage’ inspired the band’s name. The band came up with its debut studio album ‘Good Charlotte’ in 2001 and it included three singles: “Little Things”, “Motivation Proclamation”, and “Festival Song”. The band released its second album, ‘The Young and the Hopeless,’ in 2002. The album was a huge success, selling 4.9 million copies.

Madden and the other members of Good Charlotte made a cameo appearance as the prom band in the 2001 film Not Another Teen Movie. He later appeared with his brother Benji in the 2004 film Fat Albert and the 2006 film Material Girls. He also appeared as a guest on the hit Nickelodeon musical comedy series The Naked Brothers Band. Madden, along with his brothers Benji and Josh, founded the clothing line MADE Clothing. The line is no longer in service. MADE Clothing was renamed DCMA Collective in early 2006. Joel, his brothers Benji and Josh Madden, and his friend Tal Cooperman own the brand. The Madden brothers also lead the Dead Executives production team.

Alex Kunnari and Heikki L’s single “City of Sin” featured Madden. Madden was a member of The Madden Brothers, a pop rock duo with his brother Benji. On September 16, 2014, they released the album Greetings from California. The album title, Greetings from California, was inspired by a conversation the brothers had over breakfast one morning about how far they had come since the days of making music in their bedrooms. Madden appeared as a guest on the American television series Empire in 2015. He was a solo coach on The Voice Australia from its inception in 2012 to 2014. He appeared on The Voice Kids in 2014 and the main series in 2015-2016 with his brother Benji.
