Lunden began her career as a journalist at KCRA-TV. In 1975, she went on to work for WABC-TV’s ‘Eyewitness News program in New York. She also began co-anchoring the weekend newscasts. Following that, she joined GMA as a feature news reporter and then as a fill-in co-host for ABC’s Winter Olympics coverage. Many years of her journalistic career were spent hosting alongside ABC’s Charlie Gibson. Her success on the GMA show allowed her to interview numerous US Presidents and First Ladies, including Gerald and Betty Ford, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and George and Barbara Bush, to mention a few.

Lunden was the A&E cable network’s ‘Behind Closed Doors’ host. She has appeared as a guest host on the network’s show ‘Biography’ multiple times. She also hosted the DirectTV shows ‘Hometown Heroes’ and ‘America’s Invisible Children’. She now presents the Lifetime series “Health Corner.”Her most recent television appearances have included presenting DirectTV’s Hometown Heroes and the Emmy-winning special America’s Invisible Children. Lunden took over as host of the public television show Second Opinion in 2021. Lunden also presents the Lifetime series Health Corner, which is sponsored by Walgreens. She is currently the spokesperson for A Place for Mom, a national referral service for senior care. She is also a public speaker who advocates for breast cancer awareness.
