He grew up in a working-class neighborhood with his two sisters, Yvonne and Diana. He relocated to Puerto Rico for a few years when he was ten years old. He had never spoken Spanish before. Simone began dating Diane Russell, another detective from the 15th Precinct. In season 5, they married, but Diane miscarried.
