Jesse L. Martin Family – Education

Martin is the third of four sons. His mother, Virginia Price, worked as a college counselor, while his father, Jesse Reed Watkins, drove trucks. He arrived two months early at birth. When he was a little boy, his parents separated. Martin later took on his stepfather’s last name after his mother remarried.

When Martin was in elementary school, the family moved to Buffalo, New York, but Martin disliked speaking due to his Southern accent and was frequently overcome by shyness. A concerned teacher and mentor encouraged him to join an after-school theatrical group and placed him as the pastor in The Golden Goose. Being from Virginia, the young Martin performed the character in the only manner he knew how: as an inspired Southern Baptist preacher. The act was a success, and Martin came out of his shell. Martin went to high school at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. He eventually enrolled at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts’ theatre department.

Joe developed a romantic relationship with Judge Cecile Horton, accepting Wally’s fate as Kid Flash and assisting in Iris’ survival. They had a daughter, Jenna, as the team dealt with challenges like as Thinker, Cicada, and Bloodwork. After David Singh retired, Joe took over as captain. He faced danger from Joseph Carver and enrolled in a witness protection program before rejoining the crew to combat the Mirror Monarch. When Kristen Kramer took control, Joe resigned owing to a disagreement with Frost. Joe began to enjoy life more after retirement, realizing that there were benefits to retirement. He was concerned about Jenna’s safety in Central City, so he opted to leave the team with her and await visits from Cecile and the team.

Jesse L. Martin The Irrational

He appeared as Professor Alec Mercer, a world-renowned expert in behavioral science in the American crime drama television series The Irrational. The show focuses on Alec Mercer, a world-renowned professor of behavioral psychology with a unique perspective on human nature. Mercer provides his knowledge in a variety of high-profile situations involving governments, corporations, and police enforcement. However, he meets his match in a female domestic terror suspect who throws his life upside down.

Jesse L. Martin Law & Order

He played Detective Ed Green on Law & Order for over ten years. His debut appearance was in the tenth season episode “Gunshow”, and his final appearance was in the eighteenth season episode “Burn Card”. At the end of the fifteenth season, Martin left Law & Order to film the film adaptation of Rent and reprise his role as Tom Collins from the Broadway musical (alongside Taye Diggs and Anthony Rapp). He was the series’ fifth longest-serving main cast member, following S. Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston, Jerry Orbach, and Steven Hill.

Green worked as a detective in Gang Intel. Unlike his predecessor, Detective Rey Curtis, Detective Green’s approach as a cop was more confrontational, reminiscent of Dirty Harry. This can be seen when Detective Green aims his gun at a suspect who opened fire on college students and orders him to confess without reading him the Miranda warning.  He was Lennie Briscoe’s teammate until he retired in 2004.  After that, his new partner was Detective Joe Fontana. Green was shot in the line of duty by Emiliano Ortiz while accompanying a witness, Kenny Peluso, to court.  He recovered and was assigned desk duty until he was ready to resume field work.
