Verszyla, who was laid go by KDKA in December 2018 after 23 years on the air, spent the summer as a freelance forecaster for Channel 4. The Sewickley native will work alongside chief meteorologist Mike Harvey and meteorologists Ashley Dougherty and Cam Tran on WTAE’s weather team.
Verszyla effectively replaces Alex Alecci, who left Channel 4 in June for a position at WTAE sister station WESH-TV in Orlando, Florida. Verszyla stated after his departure from KDKA that he had no plans to leave Pittsburgh. He looked into employment outside of broadcasting, such as public relations, marketing, and media relations, before launching WhiteBoard Weather, which provides weather forecasts on his social media platforms.
Verszyla will stop using the WhiteBoard Weather name after his existing sponsorship arrangements expire at the end of October as a result of his new job at WTAE. In his internet engagements, he’ll start adopting WTAE branding. Verszyla will work weekend evenings in addition to filling in as needed throughout the week.
