Jared Bowen joined Greater Boston’s staff in 1998 as a researcher, progressing to associate producer and finally field producer. Bowen began as an occasional contributor to Greater Boston in 2002 before becoming a permanent on-air reporter in 2005. As a result, his “Center Stage” briefings include topics ranging from breaking news to politics to arts and culture. Bowen produced four news documentaries for Greater Boston during his tenure, including “Veil of Secrecy,” an examination of the Catholic Church’s sexual abuse scandal, a special on the James “Whitey” Bulger saga, a half-hour program on the aftermath of September 11, and The Opinion Makers, a behind-the-scenes look at the Supreme Judicial Court.
He also served as Greater Boston’s lead producer for the first three seasons of the “Eye on Education” series. Bowen is a member of the Elliot Norton Awards Selection Committee, which honors distinction in Boston theater. In addition, he serves on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Boston/New England Chapter. Bowen is the recipient of two New England Emmy Awards. Prior to joining the show, he received a fellowship from the International Radio & Television Society, which placed him on Dateline NBC in New York City.
