Dorsey began his career as a programmer. In the year 2000, he relocated to Oakland, California in search of better job opportunities. Using his dispatch software, he founded a company that dispatched taxis, couriers, and emergency services. During this time, he also became serious about his idea for a short message communication service that would provide real-time status updates to his friends. Meanwhile, his business failed, and he struggled for several years. He supported himself by freelancing. He even took massage therapy classes. He never gave up on his dream of creating the short message service he had imagined. He approached ‘Odeo,’ a directory and search destination website that was looking for text messaging services.
He was noticed by ‘Odeo’ co-founder Evan Williams and one of the company’s executives, Biz Stone.
