Smith announced the 50 Million Pound Challenge in April 2007, in collaboration with State Farm Insurance. The challenge was part of a nationwide health program to raise awareness about fitness and the dangers of obesity. The Challenge was a free campaign funded by national civic and health organizations that aimed to reduce the impact of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and obesity in the United States.
CVS Pharmacy collaborated with the 50 Million Pounds website. The 50 Million Pound Challenge, in collaboration with CVS, took part in a series of free community health events in urban communities across the United States, with a particular emphasis on improving health outcomes in the African-American population.
