Bailey began playing the cello and violin at a young age. Her elder sister, Chloe, who was passionate about music, inspired her. Halle, like her sister, learned to play the guitar by watching YouTube tutorials. When their father Doug Bailey saw the sisters’ musical progress, he quit his day job and became their full-time manager, allowing the girls to perform all over Atlanta. Soon after, the duo began uploading videos to YouTube. On March 30, 2008, the sisters posted their first video “Love Is You” on their YouTube channel ‘Chloe x Halle.’ With their soulful performance, the young singers captured the attention of millions of people. They then performed incredible renditions of Beyoncé’s “Best Thing I Never Had.”
Halle and her sister were adamant about becoming musicians. On September 23, 2013, the duo released its critically acclaimed EP ‘Uncovered’ digitally. On December 22, 2013, the sisters uploaded a cover of Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts,” little did they know that it would change their lives. The cover went viral, catching Beyoncé’s attention, and she shared it on her Facebook page. As if that wasn’t enough, in 2015, Halle and Chloe signed a million-dollar contract with Beyoncé’s own music label, ‘Parkwood Entertainment.’ The Queen Bey also served as their mentor while allowing them creative freedom. She recognized their musical talent and advised them to “trust your gift and let the rest of the world catch up to you.”
Halle is also a talented actress who made her debut in the 2006 romantic comedy film ‘Last Holiday.’ In 2012, she appeared in the films ‘Let It Shine’ and ‘Joyful Noise.’ Her television credits include ‘House of Payne’ (2007), ‘Austin & Ally’ (2013), and Skylar in ‘Grown-ish’ (2018 – present). In December 2017, she and her sister wrote and performed the theme song (Grown) for the show ‘Grown-ish.’ Halle Bailey’s musical journey continued to hit all the right notes, with the release of ‘Chloe x Halle’s’ mixtape ‘The Two of Us’ on March 16, 2017.
