McNamee began his DJ career after being introduced to a family friend’s music setup and a six-inch-high wooden riser. McNamee would purchase his own DJ deck and start organizing block parties and community activities. McNamee was employed as Webster Hall’s Director of Operations after earning a BS in Business Administration from Fordham University, Rose Hill. In May 1997, McNamee left Webster Hall to pursue his own business interests. He bought a tavern in Hunter Mountain called SixMileCross as a tribute to his father’s hometown in Northern Ireland. Responding to the 1998 terrorist explosion in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland, where he has spent his entire life, McNamee wrote “A Moment of Silence” in memory of the victims.
Following his graduation from Fordham University, McNamee responded to a classified item in The New York Times that said “Night Club Manager Wanted, 40,000 square feet of adventure… 5 years New York City experience necessary… Fax Resume.” McNamee’s previous experience included operating and booking bands and DJs at the Bronx River Yacht Club. In January 1993, Lon, Steve, and Doug Ballinger hired him to oversee Webster Hall, which is legendary and world-famous. McNamee hosted a slew of celebrities while serving as the venue’s Director. In 1997, McNamee left Webster Hall to pursue a business and acting career. McNamee returned to the arena in 2008. During this time, the club rose to the top of New York City’s nightlife scene.
