It is the third ABC television series to feature Delany as the main character, following Colleen McMurphy in China Beach and Katherine Mayfair in Desperate Housewives.

Storyline

Mack applies to Vance College but cannot afford it without a scholarship. Jodie, who is tired of being the model minority student at Lawndale, wants to attend Turner, a historically black college. Mack’s parents do not believe she will be able to attend Turner if her parents accept her decision, causing her parents to change their minds. Daria and Tom break up with Tom at the end of the series, explaining that their lives are diverging. Brittney has been accepted to Prairie State University, but her boyfriend Kevin will have to repeat his senior year due to poor grades. Daria unexpectedly wins an academic award and delivers an impromptu speech in which she reiterates her disdain for high school. Various “alter ego” renderings depict possible future careers and scenarios for nearly all of the series’ characters during the end credits. After the final episode aired in May 2013, the show was canceled.
