She began her media career in 1978, while still a junior at Bethany College, as an intern at WTRF-TV in Wheeling, West Virginia, where she was initially credited as Faith Agostine. In 1981, Daniels relocated to Peoria, Illinois, where she worked for ABC and CBS affiliates WRAU-TV and WMBD-TV. The following year, she was hired as the noon anchor at WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. She began working for WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1983. Daniels’ national news career began in the spring of 1985 at CBS News, where she anchored the CBS Morning News. She was one of the youngest national news anchors at the age of 28.
She joined NBC in June 1990 as the Today and NBC Sunday Nightly News anchor, and she later became the anchor of the now-defunct NBC News at Sunrise. Daniels was the first journalist to host her own national daily talk show, A Closer Look (later renamed Faith Daniels), on NBC’s midday daytime schedule in 1991. Among the show’s notable interviews was one with Stacey Koon, one of the police officers involved in the October 24, 1992, beating of Rodney King. Daniels, an active supporter of the National Council for Adoption, no longer works as an anchor, reporter, or host; however, she did return to public view as the debate moderator in Robin Williams’ film Man of the Year (2006).
