Murray was born on October 24, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Fahrid “Fred” Abraham, an automobile mechanic, and his wife Josephine (née Stello) (April 15, 1915 – March 10, 2012). Due to the Mount Lebanon famine, his father immigrated with his family at the age of five from Muqlus, Ottoman Syria, a small village in the Valley of the Christians; his paternal grandpa was a priest in the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch. His mother, one of 14 children, was Italian American and the daughter of an Italian immigrant who worked in Western Pennsylvania’s coal mines. Robert and Jack, his two younger brothers, were murdered in separate car accidents.
Abraham grew up in El Paso, Texas. Murray and his two younger siblings were altar boys at El Paso’s St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. He graduated from El Paso High School in 1958 after attending Vilas Grammar School. He attended Texas Western College (since renamed the University of Texas at El Paso), where he received the Alpha Psi Omega award for best actor for his performance of the Indian Nocona in Comanche Eagle during the 1959-60 season. He attended the University of Texas at Austin before studying acting at HB Studio in New York City under Uta Hagen.

Abraham rose to notoriety after playing cocaine dealer Omar Suárez in the gangster thriller Scarface.Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant, arrives in Miami in 1980 with his best buddy Manny Ray and associates Angel and Chi-Chi. They are freed in exchange for the assassination of a former Cuban commander at the behest of Miami drug lord Frank Lopez. They get work as dishwashers in a restaurant but are dissatisfied and decide to pursue greater opportunities. Tony and his buddies are dispatched to Colombia to buy cocaine from Colombian dealers, but they are apprehended at gunpoint. They give the narcotics and money to Frank, suspecting Omar of setting them up.

In the American comedy television series Mythic Quest, he played Carl Longbottom / C.W. Longbottom, the head writer of Mythic Quest. The show centers on a fictional video game studio that creates Mythic Quest, a popular MMORPG, and is led by the game’s inventor and creative director, Ian Grimm. Abraham was sacked from Mythic Quest in April 2022 after being accused of sexual misbehavior on site. Abraham apologized and indicated that he never intended to “offend anyone” in a reaction statement.
