When she was six years old, she composed a play called Star Girl, which was performed at her school.

Skeggs portrayed Rebecca in the Huntington Theatre Company’s (Boston, Massachusetts) performance of Our Town in December 2012. She returned to the Irish Rep in 2014 for the musical Transport, where she played “Polly Cantwell”. In 2014, she also played Young Dee in Signature Theatre Company’s production of And I and Silence.

Skeggs was the understudy for Joan and Medium Alison in Fun Home, an Off-Broadway show in 2013. She replaced Alexandra Socha (who left the play early for personal reasons) as Medium Alison in November 2013, and returned for the Broadway production in 2015, marking her Broadway debut. Skeggs was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Featured Actress in a Musical and won a Theatre World Award for her performance. She portrays a young Roma Guy in the 2017 film When We Rise.
