Samet Career

Samet has been a Professor of English at West Point since 1997, an experience that has affected her work tremendously. Samet holds a Ph.D. in English literature from Yale and a B.A. from Harvard. She has received numerous prizes and honors for her work. Samet’s autobiographical book Soldier’s Heart recalls her experience teaching literature to troops prepared to serve in a war at the United States Military Academy, or West Point. Samet told Dallas News that her interest in Ulysses S. Grant spurred her interest in teaching at West Point because the military commander and president was a West Point alumnus. Her work delves into the soldier’s perspective as well as the sad problems of losing one of her former students.
