Eddie Huang Career

Huang began his legal career at the New York-based law firm Chadbourne & Parke. He began as a summer associate (in 2006 and 2007) before becoming an associate in the firm’s corporate law division in 2008. However, he was laid off as a result of the 2007-2008 financial crisis. After that, he worked as a marijuana dealer and stand-up comedian for a few days. Eddie launched Hoodman Clothing, a streetwear brand, in 2006. (initially named Bergdorf Hoodman). He was the company’s CEO until 2009. He co-designed clothes with art director and graphic designer Ning Juang, whom he met in Taiwan while working there.

Eddie had developed an interest in cooking while watching cooks prepare various dishes in his father’s restaurants as a child. He’d also honed his skills as an expeditor and restaurant manager. In December 2009, he opened BaoHaus, a Taiwanese “Gua-Bao” (bun) eatery in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. In July 2011, he moved to the East Village and revamped his menu, adding many new items. The same year, he was named to Chow.com’s “Chow 13,” an annual list of influential people in the food industry. Eddie Huang is also well-known for his Fresh Off the Boat blog. Fresh Off the Boat: A Memoir, his autobiography, was published in 2013 and quickly became a best-seller.

Double Cup Love: On the Trail of Family, Food, and Broken Hearts in China, his second memoir, was published in 2016. Eddie was a host on the Cooking Channel’s Cheap Bites in 2011. Before leaving the Cooking Channel for Viceland, he appeared in a few episodes of Unique Eats. Eddie began hosting the MTV show Snack Off in 2014. On the show, he was seen mentoring contestants who took part in cooking challenges. The same year, ABC debuted Fresh Off the Boat, a show based on Eddie’s best-selling memoir. Hudson Yang (as Eddie), Randall Park, and Constance Wu appeared in it. On February 4, 2015, two preview episodes of the show aired. The show premiered in prime time on February 10, 2015.

In August 2019, tabloids reported that Eddie would write and direct a movie named Boogie. It would narrate the tale of a budding Chinese–American basketball player in New York City. The film, starring Taylor Takahashi, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., and Pamelyn Chee, among others, has already been shot but is still in its post-production stage.
