Drake Bell Accident
On December 29, 2005, Bell, then 19, was driving from Malibu to Los Angeles with a friend when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle while stopped at a red light on California State Route 1. Though Bell’s passenger merely received bruises, his injuries, while not life-threatening, were severe, including a shattered neck and vertebra, a broken jaw, the loss of seven teeth, and deep facial lacerations. Bell required almost 70 facial sutures during his rehabilitation, had his jaw wired shut for two months, and underwent chin and mouth surgery.

Bell appeared on the Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh in 2003, as Drake Parker alongside Amanda Show co-star Josh Peck. His song “Found a Way” was used as the show’s theme song and so appears on the soundtrack, which was released on February 22, 2005. During this time, he appeared as himself on Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 in the episode “Spring Fling,” performing “Highway to Nowhere,” which is also on the Drake & Josh album.
He also received his first of three consecutive Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for “Favorite TV Actor”. Bell appeared in Yours, Mine, and Ours with Dennis Quaid and Miranda Cosgrove from Drake & Josh in 2005. Bell’s debut album, Telegraph, was released independently on August 23, 2005. The album has 12 tracks. Except for “Highway to Nowhere,” all of the tracks were composed entirely by Bell himself. As an independent release, the album went out of print until being re-released on August 7, 2007. “Down We Fall” was featured on an episode of Drake & Josh titled “Number 1 Fan”.
