Derek Klena Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin
In the HBO Max original series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, he plays Wes. The show is a spin-off of the popular Freeform show Pretty Little Liars. Wes is Tabby’s employer at The Orpheum, Millwood’s second-run neighborhood cinema. Wes, a devilishly attractive film school graduate, and Tabby have bonded over their mutual love of movies, but Wes’ intentions are far from pure.
Wes is charming, extroverted, flirty, and always complimentary of Tabby. While his intentions may appear nice to the casual observer, his innuendos, compliments about her maturity for her age, and attempts to be alone with her are far from harmless. Tabby arrives late at The Orpheum on September 28th, apologizing to her supervisor Wes. Wes orders Chip to clean the restrooms, but Tabby insists on handling the popcorn. Wes protests against the oversexualization of the female characters in the film before they are slashed to death.
Tabby approaches Wes and asks if she may host her double feature on Thursday. Wes parks his car in a deserted area and expresses his feelings for Tabby and his former professors. Imogen and Tabby prepare for the screening at The Orpheum on October 1st. Karen runs out of the theater, crying, after the showing, and Wes arrives. Tabby acknowledges it was her video and requests that Wes not fire her. She apologizes to Wes and hopes that it will not happen again, particularly with NYU academics. He tells her she needs to clean up so he can take her home.
Derek Klena Law & Order
He appeared as Conner Howell in the episode “Devastating Story” of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Heather Manning was raped by Connor Howell when she was dating Brian Mackey. Howell raped her while she was inebriated, and the current frat brothers slut-shamed her and poured drinks at her by the time she woke up and fled.
Howell was arrested after Manning made repeated allegations that she was gang-raped while she was unconscious, which were widely broadcast by news outlets around the country. However, it was found that academic Jessica Dillon and writer Skip Peterson forced Manning to exaggerate her narrative in order to spark a statewide movement that ultimately self-destructed. When discrepancies were discovered, Manning came forward with the truth, which resulted in Howell and the falsely accused being released and never charged, breaking Manning’s spirit.
Derek Klena Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
He appeared as Doug / DJ Fingablast, a dog masseur and amateur DJ hired by Jacqueline to become her trophy boyfriend in the American sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He later bases his imaginary true crime documentary “Party Monster: Scratching the Surface” on the Reverend.
Kimmy Schmidt has been held captive for 15 years by Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne. She relocates to New York City after being rescued and appearing on the Today Show, where she finds work with landlord Lillian Kaushtupper. She falls in love with Dong, a Vietnamese man in her G.E.D. class, and decides to testify against the Reverend. Kimmy attends Columbia University, befriends Perry, and works at Giztoob, a technology startup. Two episodes in Season 4 deviate from the main plot.
