When their father, Ernest, moved west and married a white lady, she was conceived. She is the biracial half-sister of Nova and Ralph Angel, a sports manager, the mother of Micah, and Davis West’s ex-wife.
The series follows the lives of three siblings in rural Louisiana: Nova Bordelon, a fearless New Orleans journalist and activist; Charley Bordelon, a working wife and mother in Los Angeles; and their brother, Ralph Angel Bordelon, a single parent struggling with unemployment and raising his son alone. Their father recently died and unexpectedly left an 800-acre sugarcane property in Louisiana in equal parts to each of his three children. Charley, who is just divorced and whose husband is involved in a scandalous affair, moves to rural Louisiana with her teenage son Micah to run the farm.
