Dan Hicken Career

His first work in television was an internship with 12 News on WTLV in Jacksonville just after college graduation. He advanced steadily at the station, becoming a sports producer in 1986, a weekend sports anchor two years later, and sports director in 1991, after six years at WTLV. Hicken personally covers major local events including the Players Championship, Jacksonville Jaguars games, and the Daytona 500. He also attends national events having a Florida connection, such as championship games for the Gators and Seminoles. On radio, he also hosts “The Drill” on WJXL. Hicken’s contract with First Coast News terminated on May 31, 2013 and they could not agree on the parameters of a new deal.

However, his previous employment included a non-compete agreement that banned him from going on-air for six months, so he wrote and developed sports stories until Thanksgiving. His community affiliations include the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families of children with leukemia, and the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation, which promotes academic excellence and positive life skills for adolescents via the sport of tennis. Dan also participates in or hosts various benefit golf tournaments and charity events each year.
