Blount High School in Prichard, Alabama, in February 2011.

At Blount, he helped the Leopards to a 10-2 overall record and a trip to the Alabama High School Athletic Association playoffs. After only one season at Blount, Samuels returned to the University of Alabama in January 2012 to work as a student assistant coach for Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban.

He worked as an assistant offensive line coach there while finishing his degree in physical education. He left Alabama in 2015 to become the head coach at Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia. Samuels resigned as Osbourn’s football coach in November 2016. Samuels was appointed as the Offensive Coordinator at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland, in 2017. Samuels was hired as Offensive Coordinator at Northwest High School in Germantown, Maryland, after leaving Winston Churchill in 2019.

In the 2000 NFL Draft, Samuels was regarded as the top offensive tackle prospect. He did not participate in the NFL Combine due to a right knee injury. The Washington Redskins selected him third overall after trading two first-round picks (12th and 24th) as well as a fourth and fifth-round pick to move up to third in the first round. Samuels was the only offensive tackle selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since Bob Cryder in 1978.

In 2000, he was one of only four offensive players to start every game for the Redskins. He started all 16 regular-season games at left tackle in 2001 and was named to the Pro Bowl. The Washington Redskins became the first team in NFL history to lose their first five games before winning their next five. Samuels was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time in a row in 2004 and 2007. He paved the way for the Redskins to record their third-highest all-time rushing total in a single game on November 4 against the New York Jets. He was accused of “dirty play” in 2008 after making a low tackle on Mathias Kiwanuka during the 2008 NFL season opener.
