Holcomb is an Atlanta-based journalist who works for WXIA/WATL as a chief meteorologist. In 1991, he became a member of the 11Alive team. Chris is the Chief Meteorologist of 11Alive. He has been a meteorologist at 11Alive for more than 24 years. Chris earned the title of “Certified Broadcast Meteorologist” from the American Meteorological Society in 2007. He had held the AMS Seal of Approval since 1997. He started his career as a reporter at Macon, Georgia’s WMAZ-TV, where he also forecasted weather on weekends. He is Atlanta’s only television meteorologist that was born and raised in the city. Chris has seen a wide spectrum of uncommon Georgia weather, including blizzards, ice storms, hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes, being a native Atlantan and a lifetime Georgia resident. Chris is available from Monday through Friday.
He is also a member of the South-eastern Brain Tumour Foundation’s Board of Directors. His first race was held in honor of his sister, who died of a brain tumor. Chris attends the Keep Georgia Beautiful Awards and St. Jude’s Southern Evening of Hope, both of which are held in Atlanta. He goes to school every day to chat to the pupils about the weather. Chris also did live coverage of the race for research purposes. Chris is the recipient of the Gabby Award for Best Weather Coverage and the Associated Press Award for Best Weather Reporting. He won the John Holliman Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2019.
