Chris Hansen Career

Hansen’s first job was at WILX (Channel 10), an NBC-affiliated television station, where he worked full-time after graduating. He witnessed the riot at Michigan State Prison as a young reporter and was the only reporter allowed to interview inmates for a story that aired on CNN and NBC. He stayed in Lansing for about a year before moving to Tampa, Florida, where he worked for WFLA-TV, another NBC affiliate, for a few years beginning in the spring of 1982. He also worked for local radio stations and newspapers in Michigan and was a reporter for WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), Detroit’s ABC station.

He began working as an investigative reporter and anchor for WDIV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan, in 1988.
