Chris Core Career
He began his career at WMAL, covering news and sports on weekends. Core took over as Bill Trumbull’s co-host on the afternoon program “Two for the Road” in 1976, succeeding Ed Meyer. Within a few years, the show’s name was changed to The Trumbull and Core Show. Eventually, this evolved into The Chris Core Show. Brooke Stevens took over as co-host after Bill Trumbull retired in 1996, before departing the station in 2000. Core was fired from WMAL on February 29, 2008, after almost 33 years of service, as part of a sweeping shakeup at the station’s parent corporation, Citadel Broadcasting. Core was sacked after that day’s act, so he didn’t get to say farewell to his audience.
Core stated a desire to return to the air on a different station. Chris Plante, WMAL’s morning host, took over for Core. Core was appointed as a feature contributor for the Washington, DC-based news radio station WTOP in 2008. His commentary, “Core Values,” airs at 3:40, 6:10, and 8:40 p.m. His commentaries are also available to download via the radio station’s website. He appeared on Chris Core Talks, a commentary-style TV show on D.C.’s local CW station. He also appears as a guest host on XM Radio (Channel 130)’s “POTUS”.

Core received the RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award in 2009, and he was named one of three top radio personalities by readers of The Washington Times in their 2002 Readers’ Choice awards; he was recently named one of the Top 100 Talk Show Hosts in the country by Talkers Magazine for the second consecutive year.
