He is an American journalist best recognized for his work as a correspondent and substitute anchor for ABC News Nightline. Bury was also a national correspondent for World News with Diane Sawyer and Good Morning America from Chicago. He is now a Senior Journalist in Residence at Chicago’s DePaul University. Bury has recently contributed to the PBS NewsHour and Al Jazeera America. Bury started his journalism career in 1975 as a reporter for WCLX Radio in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He taught at Marquette University’s College of Journalism from 1979 to 1980. He then went on to work as a political and investigative reporter for Milwaukee station WTMJ-TV. In January 1981, he joined KTVI-TV in St. Louis as co-host and correspondent for “EXTRA,” an award-winning television program. Bury worked as a reporter for KPRC-TV in Houston from 1981 to 1982. He joined ABC News in 1982 as a general assignment reporter located in Chicago. Bury was assigned full-time coverage of Bill Clinton’s Presidential campaign for World News Tonight in 1992, and following the inauguration, he was transferred to Nightline in Washington, D.C., where he worked as a correspondent and anchor until 2007.
