Bush began his career on WLKZ-FM in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, hosting the afternoon drive show before moving to WARW-FM in Washington, D.C., where he hosted the midday show. [Citation required] Bush joined WWZZ-FM (Z104) in Washington, D.C. in March 1997 as the host of the Billy Bush and the Bush League Morning Show, which aired until January 2001. Bush hosted a brief run of Let’s Make a Deal on NBC in prime time. He was also a correspondent for WNBC-morning TV’s show Today in New York. In December 2001, Bush became the East Coast correspondent for Access Hollywood, a daily entertainment news magazine. In June 2004, he was promoted to co-anchor.

He appeared on the red carpet at high-profile events such as the Golden Globes, Grammys, and Academy Awards, and he hosted ABC’s live pre-show for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Academy Awards, as well as the 2006 Emmy Red Carpet Special. Bush covered the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens for NBC, and he hosted Access Hollywood’s coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Bush also hosted the NBC reality show Grease: You’re the One That I Want! in 2007 and filled in for Meredith Vieira for a week of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire shows from April 21 to 25, 2008. He and Vieira both made cameo appearances as hosts of fictional game shows.

Bush co-hosted the Miss Universe pageant four times: in 2003 and 2004, alongside Daisy Fuentes; in 2005, alongside fellow Access Hollywood co-anchor Nancy O’Dell; and in 2009, alongside Claudia Jordan. He has also co-hosted the Miss USA pageant four times, all with nearly the same partners: Fuentes in 2003, O’Dell in 2004 and 2005, and Nadine Velazquez in 2009. Following the cancellation of the 2008 Golden Globe Awards due to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007-08, Bush co-hosted the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announcement press conference with O’Dell on January 13, 2008.

Bush and co-host Kit Hoover co-hosted the syndicated national daily entertainment talk show Access Hollywood Live. This show is a sister show to Access Hollywood, and it features a host chat about popular topics as well as celebrity live interviews. As part of the NBC team coverage, Bush and Hoover traveled to the United Kingdom to cover Prince William’s wedding to Catherine Middleton. Bush voiced the drill sergeant in the 2010 film Furry Vengeance and was a newscaster in the Disney animated film Big Hero 6. He has also appeared on several television shows, including 30 Rock and Donny! Bush was chosen to co-host the third hour of NBC’s Today. Willie Geist was temporarily replaced by him.
