Liao started her professional career in 2013 after signing with an agency, making guest appearances in Bad Teacher, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, and Fresh Off the Boat. She was cast as Mandy in the 2016 Disney XD movie Jessica Darling’s It List, which was produced by Debby Ryan. For the first three seasons of Full House’s Netflix spin-off, Fuller House, Liao portrayed Lola Wong. For the second season, she was elevated to series regular. She also appeared in season one of the Amazon Prime Video series The Kicks in a recurring role as Parker Zhao. She played a younger Ali Wong character in the 2019 Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe.
She also played Princess Eleanor in the 2020 Disney+ movie Secret Society of Second Born Royals. In the 2021 Apple TV+ series Physical, Liao portrayed Simone.
