McPartlin was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after being involved in a traffic crash in London on March 18, 2018. The next day, on March 19, he met with Donnelly and ITV and agreed to take a break from presenting in order to return to rehab for further treatment.

On April 16, 2018, he was interviewed under caution and then charged with drunk driving. McPartlin pled guilty to the offense at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court the following month, receiving a 20-month driving suspension and an £86,000 fine, Britain’s highest-ever penalty for drink-driving. He had previously been prohibited from driving for 30 days and fined £350 for exceeding 127 mph (204 km/h) on the A1(M) motorway.

From then on, McPartlin and Donnelly collaborated on television, forming the presenting pair Ant & Dec. In 2007, it was determined that Ant & Dec’s Gameshow Marathon and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which he co-hosted with Donnelly, had scammed fans who participated in phone-ins. The latter was created by the pair’s own production firm.

The pair kept on keeping up with work in acting, featuring in a recognition for The Logical Fellows, as a redo of an episode from the show’s spin-off Whatever Happened to the Possible Chaps? named “No Concealing Spot”.
