Eileen recalls viewing various weather reports with him in the mornings before she left for school and dad left for work. Eileen kept a close eye on the radar and sent her father updates on where the rain/storm/snow was and where it was headed so he could plan which jobs he could undertake outside.
With the passage of time, her interest in weather grew even more. She would “live” track storms from her residence, pin paper maps to her walls and pretend she was providing a live weather forecast on the radio, and compare her forecasts to those of other local meteorologists. Doug Hill and Bob Ryan were also on her radar.
She was active in the National Broadcasting Society, The Geographic Society, and a variety of other school organizations. During her time at SU, she completed two internships. Sue Palka was her intern at FOX 5 in Washington, DC, and WMDT in Salisbury, MD. Eileen had her first on-air job after college at WBOC in Salisbury, MD. She began her career as an anchor on the weekend morning show before moving on to the weekday morning and noon shows. In the early mornings, Eileen travels across the ABC7 viewing area in the Storm Chaser Hummer, giving live weather conditions for Good Morning Washington.
