Moran Atias is an Israeli actress and model who rose to prominence in the Italian films Gas, Oggi Sposi, and Mother of Tears. She is most recognized for starring alongside Paul Haggis in the 2008 television series Crash and the 2013 feature Third Person. She also appeared in the FX television series Tyrant.

Family – Husband

Atias was born in Haifa, Israel, to parents of Moroccan Jewish heritage. Her grandfather was a Rabbi. At the age of 17, she was diagnosed with meningitis, which derailed her plans to join the Israel Defense Forces. She pursued modeling instead, first in Germany and later in Italy, where she was noticed and signed as a model for Robert Cavalli. Her younger sister is Shani Atias, an Israeli actress.

Atias obtained U.S. citizenship by naturalization in February of 2017. Moran gave birth to a daughter in 2022.

Atias The Village

She appeared as Ava Behzadi, an Iranian refugee and Ben’s love interest in the American drama television series The Village. The Village follows the tenants of an apartment building in Brooklyn where “the people who reside in the building have built a bonded family of friends and neighbors”. The main characters are Sarah, a nurse, who is living with her teenage daughter Katie; Gabe, a law student, who helps his grandfather Enzo; Ava, an Iranian immigrant, who has a U.S.-born son and problems with ICE; Nick, a veteran, who is haunted by the past and is also Katie’s father (unbeknownst to her); Ron, the super, and Patricia, a social worker, who are “the heart and soul of the building” The narratives are described as “hopeful, heartwarming and challenging … that prove family is everything—even if it’s the one you make with the people around you.”

Atias Tyrant

She appeared as Leila Al-Fayeed: Jamal’s wife in the American political drama television series Tyrant. For twenty years, Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed, the younger of two sons of a notorious Middle Eastern despot, has been evading his history. He is currently a pediatrician in the United States with an American wife, son, and daughter.

He has no desire to return to his ancestral home. But when he is forced, against his will, to return to his native land (the made-up nation of Abuddin) for his nephew’s wedding, he finds himself sucked into a tense political dilemma when his father passes away in the middle of a populist uprising against the royal dynasty. Now, Bassam has to try to use his power to steer his violent and erratic older brother Jamal, the new president, toward a political settlement that would stop the bloodshed.

Atias Crash

She appeared as Inez in the American television drama series Crash. Following the success of shows created by its rivals Showtime and HBO, Starz started trying to generate original television series. The network promoted funding and creative freedom for projects involving original programming. The first original scripted drama on the network, Crash is based on the 2004 Academy Award-winning film of the same name. Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco, the film’s creators, were keen to create a television series based on the subject. Starz and Lionsgate worked together to develop the television series.
