She pled guilty to federal charges on May 13, and was sentenced to 14 days in prison. Diane Perkins, a psychologically damaged woman, was raped by doctor Alex Merrit. Elizabeth Olivet, a mental patient, went to see Merritt for an evaluation when he was unavailable. Olivet did not do additional community study after discovering that Merritt was a pathological sexual sadist. When Olivet discovered Perkins had been raped, she made an appointment with Merritt to conduct her own inquiry.
However, the jury’s guilty judgment was overturned owing to victim blaming and the revelation that Perkins was Olivet’s patient. Miriam Gregg, a drug addict nurse, was arrested and testified about Perkins’ rape. Merritt’s fate was sealed when he rejected all claims after posting bail, prompting 54 additional women to denounce his rapes, molestations, and sexual violence, resulting in a life without parole plea deal.
