Eric Frede is an American sportscaster who has been employed for NESN since 2002. Prior to leaving NESN to join NBC Sports Boston, he called plays for NESN College Football Saturday broadcasts. He is currently an anchor for SportsNet Central.

Career

In New York, Frede started his career in broadcasting by working as a production assistant at NBC Sports, calling Marist College basketball games on the radio, and covering sports for West Point. After that, he was employed by WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire, and WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine. After moving to Boston in 1998, he worked as a host for Fox Sports New England’s magazine, pre- and post-game shows featuring the Boston Celtics. In addition, he called basketball games for the America East, New England Revolution, and Boston Breakers telecasts. Additionally, Frede has called sports nationally for SPEED, CSTV (college hockey), WUSA (women’s college basketball), and Oxygen (college basketball).

In December 2002, Frede began working for NESN as a SportsDesk host. In addition, he has called plays for the New England Revolution and hosted Inside Hockey East, a half-hour program that airs on NESN during college hockey. During a portion of the NBA season 2002–03, he also served as the Celtics PA announcer. He worked as the Boston Red Sox’s field reporter. Tom Caron has been replaced by Frede in the pre- and post-game reports. In addition, he has hosted Red Sox Rewind, covered for Bob Lobel on Boston Globe: SportsPlus, and presented NESN SportsDesk. He was the studio host for the Boston Bruins. Frede graduated from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, in 1988. For the World Championship Sports Network, Frede called the play-by-play during the Ice Hockey World Championships.

Currently, he works for NESN calling minor league baseball games. He filled in for an injured Don Orsillo, the Red Sox’s play-by-play announcer on NESN, in the Fenway Park broadcast booth on June 11, 2010, and again two days later, for a game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He later left NESN to join CSN New England, where he currently works as an anchor for the SportsNet Central show. Alongside Paul Stewart, Barry Pederson, Don Sweeney, Gord Kluzak, Rick Middleton, and Cam Neely, he has worked on Bruins pre- and post-game coverage.
