Nevins and two other staff writers, Mitch Stacy and Lisa Trei, took first place in the Excellence in Medical Journalism Awards for their six-part series “Too Poor to Be Sick.” She worked in Washington, D.C., for National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and for Peter Jennings’ documentary series, Peter Jennings: Reporting, where she received an Emmy for her work on gun regulation. In 1996, she married David Nevins, who went on to become a Showtime executive and CBS’s CCO.

She is a founder member of IKAR, a non-denominational Jewish congregation that has been recognized one of the 50 most prominent Jewish non-profits in the world. Nevins helps with UNICEF USA and serves on the Southern California regional board of directors. She also co-founded The XX Fund, a donor-advised fund to assist underserved women and girls in Los Angeles, alongside Los Angeles’ First Lady, Amy Elaine Wakeland, and several other women.

Nevins worked on Hillary Rodham Clinton: Changing the Rules, an A&E documentary on her in 1994. as well as I Am Somebody, a 1995 documentary about Jesse Jackson.
