Yousef Gamal El-Din is an Egyptian-Swiss journalist and author. He has been the host of Bloomberg Television’s Bloomberg Markets: Middle East since 2016. He previously worked for CNBC, where he rose to prominence as the host of CNBC’s Access.

Gamal El-Din joined Nile TV in July 2007 as an English presenter and reporter. He made his debut on “Top Stories” on July 17, 2007, and since then has frequently anchored the news at the top of the hour live from Cairo. He covered significant events in Egypt and interviewed a diverse spectrum of politicians, activists, and academics. He also covered Wikimania 2008 and spoke with Jimmy Wales for Egyptian TV. In July 2008, he took over as host of the News Hour, a biweekly political program. Gamal El-Din began hosting the new Business World show later in September. He also appeared on Channel 2’s Yas3ad Saba7ak on occasion.

CNBC extended substantial coverage of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution during the instability and violence. During the height of the protests in Tahrir Square, Gamal El-Din was heard “urging protesters to leave him alone so that he could report” for the network and MSNBC. Only minutes after the Battle of the Camel began, anchors begged him to “stay safe.” According to CNBC, he is reporting under “the most difficult of circumstances.” Since the beginning of the revolution, Gamal El-Din has returned to Cairo numerous times to cover protests, and he interviewed Egyptian Interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf just hours before the July 8 “Friday of Determination” march. He also covered the Bahrain revolt, Jordanian protests in 2011, and the Turkish general election in 2011.

Gamal El-Din presented Access: Middle East, a primetime series that provides vital insights into regional economic and business developments, on July 4, 2012. Outside of regular programming, Gamal El-Din attends significant World Economic Forum conferences and has moderated sessions at events such as the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and the DIFC Forum. Gamal El-Din announced his departure through Twitter on March 10, 2015, stating that he wanted to “pursue new opportunities” after five years at CNBC. On August 2, 2015, he announced the creation of “Medialitera,” an executive media consultant company in Dubai, almost six months later.
