Martin built his “The Leeds Kitchen” restaurant within the Alea Casino in Leeds in 2011. The casino and restaurant both closed in March 2013. He opened a restaurant within The Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire, in 2012. At the end of 2012, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. In June 2013, food critic Jay Rayner reviewed it for The Observer, describing his meal as “three beautifully poised, close to faultless dishes.” Martin left The Talbot in February of this year.
Martin debuted his James Martin Manchester restaurant in September 2013, specializing on modern British food. James Martin Kitchen bakery and cafe has four locations: airside at Stansted and Glasgow airports, within Debenhams at intu Lakeside, and at Manchester Piccadilly Train Station.

Martin collaborated with potato producer Albert Bartlett to create a new menu for the SpudULike by James Martin restaurant chain’s launch in Autumn 2021. It is a relaunch of Spudulike, which was active from 1974 until 2019.

Martin published an automotive column for the UK daily The Mail on Sunday until 2013. Martin said in his column in 2009 that he despised cyclists and took joy in scaring them by driving an electric Tesla Roadster (2008) in such a way that it shocked a cycling group, forcing them off the road. He apologized for the statements after receiving criticism from cycling organizations and professionals such as Bradley Wiggins and Stuart O’Grady. According to the complaints, the driving was illegal and dangerous.

James prepared two dishes for each episode while researching the produce of each region. He has served as a judge on the CBBC channel’s Junior Bake Off competition since 2013.
In October 2014, James introduced another daytime show for BBC One called Meet the Road which planned to join networks and decrease depression. In 2015, he visitor gave various episodes of The One Show Alex Jones. Martin hosted BBC One’s daytime cooking show The Box in 2015.
Martin witnessed the death of magazine boss Dominic De Sousa in Dubai in 2015 while attending the BBC Good Food Middle East Awards. Martin had been speaking with De Sousa just moments before the tabloid mogul stood up and succumbed to a heart attack. Martin was affected by this incident, which played a role in his decision to leave “Saturday Kitchen” later on.
“Plates, friends, and automobiles” was the title of Martin’s first live performance in the UK in February and March of 2016. Martin has been hosting ITV’s Saturday morning cooking show, Saturday Morning with James Martin, since September 2017.
