Denton made his first appearance on television as an extra on the ABC show The Investigators. In 1987, he moved on to be a member of the team that finished second on the Australian show Theatresports, which is improvised comedy. From the last part of the 1980s into the 1990s, he facilitated various Programs, including Yakkity yak (1988), The Cash or the Firearm (1989-1990), Live and Sweat-soaked (1991-1995), and a satire television show, Denton (1994-1995), that broadcasted on Seven Organization.
These programs were talk shows. The panel-based television show Live and Sweaty focused on sports. Each week on The Money or the Gun, Andrew had a musical guest perform a cover of “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin in a different musical style, usually the guest’s own musical style.
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, performers from Drove Dirigible, later showed up on Denton to play out a Rolf Harris melody. ( With a solo on the wobble board, Harris gave a notable performance of “Stairway to Heaven.”) Denton saw the Musical Challenge segment begin and challenged musical guests to perform one song from a barrel of well-known songs.
