Quinn thought that enforcing a set of constraints on players who might not face similar challenges in their daily life would be an excellent method to convey despair. In February 2013, Depression Quest was released. Quinn submitted the game to the Steam Greenlight service twice, once in December 2013 and again in August 2014, when it was accepted and distributed on Steam. Depression Quest was mentioned as one of numerous video games dealing with the subjective experience of depression in a Playboy article.
