Nair joined ABC News in December 2007 as an anchor/correspondent for ABC News Now. She anchored live coverage and news briefs for ABC’s digital network in that capacity. From September 17, 2008, to February 18, 2011, Nair was co-anchor of ABC’s World News Now and America This Morning. On both shows, she was paired with Jeremy Hubbard and, later, Rob Nelson. Nair announced on Thursday, February 17, 2011, that Friday, February 18, would be her final night on World News Now.
Prior to pursuing television journalism, Nair wrote for Today’s Chicago Woman magazine and worked as a reporter for Talk Radio News in Washington, D.C. She began her career in television news as a general assignment reporter at WGEM-TV, the NBC affiliate in Quincy, Illinois. She also worked for WYCC-TV, Chicago’s PBS station, and Evanston Community Cable Channel, Illinois’ public, educational, and government access (PEG) cable TV station.
Nair then went on to work as an anchor and reporter for KOLN/KGIN-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she anchored daily morning and afternoon newscasts. She was then the lead evening reporter and anchor at KWGN-TV, Denver’s CW affiliate. Vinita was most recently a co-anchor on CBS This Morning Saturday with Anthony Mason. She was also a CBS Newspath correspondent and appeared on the network as a substitute anchor for Up to the Minute. Nair reportedly left CBS, according to a Variety article. On October 12 and 13, 2017, Nair appeared as a guest anchor on News 8 Daybreak on Dallas-based ABC affiliate WFAA, alongside World News Now and America This Morning alum Ron Corning.
