Bagans collaborated with Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin to produce Ghost Adventures, a documentary-style film, in 2004. In 2007, the film aired on the Sci-Fi Channel. A successor series debuted on the Travel Channel in 2008 and has aired for 19 seasons as of 2019. Ghost hunting shows in general, and Ghost Adventures in particular, have been accused of impersonating ghosts. Bagans directed a spin-off series titled Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks from 2014 to 2016, which focused on changes in people’s lives following previous Ghost Adventures investigations.One of Bagans’ more notable claims from the show is his alleged communication with deceased NBC’s Suddenly Susan actor David Strickland.
Bagans co-wrote Dark World: Into the Shadows with the Lead Investigator of the Ghost Adventures Crew with author Kelly Crigger. The book debuted at No. 18 on The New York Times Best Seller list on September 23, 2011.
Bagans published Ghost-Hunting For Dummies in December 2019. The book “describes the history of ghost hunting, including true accounts and stories from Bagans’ famous cases and investigations, and explains how anyone can get started investigating the supernatural.” Paranormal investigator Kenneth Biddle writes in Skeptical Inquirer magazine that Bagans has a strong bias against skeptics and scientists throughout much of the book. The Skeptical Inquirer and the Society for Psychical Research both noted parallels between passages in the book and those by other authors.
