Prior to that, Watson worked as a key host for Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida, both of which are owned and run by Fox Television. After nearly seven years at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut, he joined the network in August 2003. Watson worked for ESPN, hosting SportsCenter, RPM 2Night, NBA 2Night, and shifts on ESPNEWS, as well as filling in on ESPN Radio. Watson previously worked as a television producer and radio broadcaster for the Orlando Magic from 1993 to 1997.
Watson worked for Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida, where he hosted pregame shows and auxiliary programming for the Tampa Bay Rays, Orlando Magic, and Tampa Bay Lightning. He has hosted various original productions, including the pregame and postgame presentations for the University of Florida and Florida State University football games. Watson was the initial host of In My Own Words, a show developed in Orlando and later replicated by other Fox Television-owned regional sports networks around the country. Watson also called the University of Florida and Florida State University basketball and football games and was the lead play-by-play announcer for the FHSAA high school football and basketball state championship games.
Watson worked as a freelance studio host for ESPN Regional Television in Charlotte, NC, announcing college basketball games on the syndicated SEC Network package while still employed by FOX. Whit Watson received Trinity Preparatory School’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007. He is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at the institution and presently serves on the Board of Trustees. He lettered in Cross-Country and served as President of Trinity Prep’s Student Council while also being an All-Conference second baseman and catcher on the baseball team.
