After attending the Cambridge Adult Education Center in 1984, Liebman began performing stand-up comedy in the Boston area. In 1996, Liebman won the American Comedy Award for female stand-up comedian of the year. On her Showtime special, Wendy Liebman: Taller On TV, in May 2012, she announced a $5 DRM-free download of It, and later made it available for audio downloads in 2014. In 2014, Liebman and her husband were driving under the influence. 7 vehicles were damaged and 1 person died in the accident. The incident affected Lieberman’s stand-up career, so the following year Lieberman decided to become a contestant on the ninth season of America’s Got Talent to “return to the stage in a bigger way.” He was eliminated in the quarterfinals on August 13, 2014, but on August 15, 2014, judge Howard Stern selected Liebman as a wild card for the season, advancing him to the semifinals. He was eliminated again on the September 3 show.
