Smith began her career in New York City theater, eventually hosting a Christmas show at a gay venue. From that point on, she began focusing most of her performances on gay audiences. The character used in the show went by the college nickname “Wendy Ho”, which has been described as a parody of a Harlem prostitute and a “laugh queen”. Her performances include stand-up comedy, rapping, and singing. She has said that she uses the word “Ho” in her stage name to dispel negative connotations. Smith’s debut album was the rap album The Gospel Below Ho, for which she also produced the music video for the song Bitch, I Stole Yo’ Purse. The video airs on the cable music video channel Logo TV. Logo viewers voted it the “funniest video of February 2008”. Coolidge was recording an album of Yo Stank songs called The Gospel of Coco (the title followed the title of Smith’s debut album), with Coolidge saying “Wendy Ho is so beautiful” after the performance. I’ve never met anyone like her. The song “Fuck Me” became a favorite among American drag queens, who began playing it frequently after its release. Smith later released a single from her album Number 2 in the summer of 2010, as well as her second full-length album Yes, I’m a Ho! Smith’s television appearances include the Showtime series I Can’t Believe I’m Still Single. In 2014, her album “Greatest Shits” reached the top 10 on the Billboard Comedy Albums chart, debuting at number eight on the chart on November 1, 2014.
