Virginia Cha Career
Cha started her news career at WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut. She worked as a general assignment reporter, substitute anchor, and eventually lead anchor and reporter for the morning news. She later became a news anchor and chief medical correspondent for WBZ TV-4 in Boston, Massachusetts, where she received three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement and a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Team Political Coverage. She worked as an anchor on MSNBC’s MSNBC Live, NBC’s NBC Nightly News, CNN, and CNN’s HLN. Cha was Miss Frederick when she entered and won the Miss Maryland 1989 pageant. She was 1st runner-up to Debbye Turner at the 1990 Miss America pageant. She plays the piano.
Prior to that, Virginia worked as a network correspondent for NBC News in New York, where she covered notable stories such as the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. She was at ground zero as the North Tower collapsed and reported on the emotional recovery operations from there in the weeks that followed. Virginia was also present in Florida during the highly contentious “hanging chad” presidential election. Virginia has covered a variety of breaking news topics, including earthquake destruction in El Salvador and the return of the China Spy Plane crew to the incredible Quecreek Mine rescue. Virginia’s reports aired on Nightly News, MSNBC, the Today Show, and Weekend Today, where she also filled in as an anchor.
