fIn January 1920, Charlie Luciano travels to Atlantic City with his mentor Arnold Rothstein for a meeting with Nucky Thompson arranged by Johnny Torrio to discuss the forthcoming alcohol business. The meeting begins well, with all of the guys having a nice time, but it quickly turns into a stressful business conference when Luciano forcefully requests that Nucky provide them with a large amount of alcohol. Nucky, who enjoys having talks, criticizes Luciano’s attitude.

Luciano then departs the table in embarrassment and allows his mentor Rothstein to discuss the transaction, which he successfully completes for an alcohol shipment. Nucky and Luciano battle again the next day, after Rothstein wins a large sum of money in Nucky’s casino and is cut off by Nucky. Luciano and Rothstein then leave Atlantic City for New York, where they would await their shipment from Nucky. However, Jimmy Darmody and Al Capone, Nucky’s and Torrio’s respective proteges, go behind Nucky’s back and hijack the shipment intended for them, murdering all of their men in the process, including a relative of Rothstein’s sister-in-law.
