After many years in the spotlight, Hollingshead performed at an open mic night at four o’clock in the evening in 1994, claiming that “even Richard Pryor isn’t funny sometimes.” He has also appeared in several films, including a small role in the 1999 film Ghost Dog: The Way of Bushido. Nine months later, Hollinghead performed a 12-minute set at The Comic Strip Live on Second Avenue in New York City. As a result of this performance, he was offered several developmental opportunities and an invitation to appear on The Drew Carey Show, which he turned down. He made his television debut in 1996, appearing on Tompkins Square hosted by Jeffrey Ross. Additional appearances on Live At Jongleurs and The Jim Breuer Show followed in 1997 and 1998.
While Hollinghead continued to make films and appear on television (mostly written and appearing on Comedy Central in 2004), he also appeared in many films. In addition to his role in Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, he appeared in the 2002 film American Dummies with ventriloquists Otto & George and Jim Brewer, and in the 2003 film The Gynecologist with Greg Fitzsimmons and Pete Correal. Hollinghead still works as a performer for popular artists. After meeting his wife, Hollingshead became a member of the Scleroderma Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing support to patients and caregivers, providing scleroderma education, and conducting research to find a cure.
