At a rooftop party in Miami, Maria, the soon-to-be bride, and her friends Leticia and Elena Rodriguez watch Mertz do a magic performance with a cocktail umbrella. Mertz has a gift from birth that enables him to fit Elena into a dress, which she is determined to wear for the wedding. Maria questions Elena about Alphonso Mackenzie, noticing that she missed his call, during their talk. But an EMP device has severed the connection.

When a helicopter crashes into a nearby building and explodes in a tremendous explosion, Maria and her companions watch as the city turns black. When Maria reaches out to her fiancé, Elena informs her that it’s probably an EMP. After informing them of an Inhuman attack, Darryl advises them to go downstairs. Maria and the others follow, only to find themselves encircled by gun-wielding Watchdogs under Briggs’ command. Their goal is to uncover the Inhumans who may be lurking among them, not to make money.

The situation seems absurd to Maria and Leticia, who wonder if there is a “freak of nature” among them. Maria disagrees with Elena’s statement that “inhumans” are also people. The guards encircle Maria and get her execution scheduled. Phil Coulson, Alphonso Mackenzie, and Leo Fitz arrive at the hotel precisely on schedule. Taking out his knife, Briggs makes a threat to murder Maria if they don’t stop. While Coulson strikes him down with a punch, Elena uses her talents to remove the knife. Following the altercation, Maria orders Elena to go, but she doesn’t change and leaves Elena behind.
