Ambudkar rose to prominence after starring as Donald in Pitch Perfect (2012) and in the 2021 film Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds. He started his career in the entertainment industry as a Video Jockey (VJ) for MTV Desi. Following that, he tried out for the role of Donald on Pitch Perfect and The Puppets. Utkarsh was then set to appear in a popular FOX News show called Eat Play Thug, but instead he played Aron in the Hamilton adaptation. He then appeared in the Dungeons & Dragons show Force Grey. Utkarsh was chosen as a member of The Bastards, a musical band, a year later.

In 2005, he began appearing on Love Supreme, a freestyle show. In 2019, Utkarsh made his Broadway debut in a popular show called Brittany Runs Marathon. He was able to film his con-artist role in the Mulan remake Skatch, but his scene was cut by Disney. Utkarsh is now a supporting actor in the 2021 film Free Guy. Free Guy is a 2021 action comedy film that follows the life of a bank teller who ends up working as a background character in an open-world video game.
