In the fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons of 24 as well as the 2014 event series 24: Live Another Day, Ma portrayed Cheng Zhi. Ma role on Kung Fu
Ma plays Kung Fu’s Jin, one of the show’s central characters on The CW. Nicky Shen’s father is Jin Shen. In addition to dealing with his daughter’s return, he and his wife, Mei-Li, are restaurateurs whose secrets threaten to ruin their life.
Nicky returns home to her estranged family in Chinatown, San Francisco, where her father Jin greets her warmly. Sadly, Nicky doesn’t take long to discover that Jin has a black eye. Jin persuades his daughter not to flee away to strange places once more as Nicky storms out. Nicky’s introspection comes to an abrupt halt when she finds Jin being shaken down at his family restaurant by a local mafia.
Following Jin’s hospitalization for recuperation, Nicky visits Ryan at his clinic and strikes up a conversation with him over a game of ping-pong. Nicky returns home to a welcoming meal prepared by Althea, Ryan, Mei-Li, and Jin. Nicky is taken back in time to the night Pei-Ling Zhang died.
At home, Jin and Mei-Li fight over Nicky’s homecoming while they race to prepare for the wedding. Jin sets up a date with Nicky after showing him a photo of their most recent game night. Nicky gets reprimanded by Mei-Li for not wanting to return home after she misses her game with her dad at home. Nicky surprises Jin with a game the following morning, but Mei-Li conditions it on him seeing a doctor.
A teenager called Andre is shot by the police in Chinatown while hate crimes against Asian Americans are on the rise. The restaurant’s storefront is smashed in retaliation, and riot police scatter the crowd with tear gas.
