Tuwanda got actively involved in producing and co-producing various station initiatives throughout her ten years as a camerawoman, including the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and the Children Miracle Network Telethon for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Tuwanda’s ambition to work as a full-time producer grew as she was given additional responsibility as a special projects producer. As a result, Tuwanda was offered the position of assistant producer on “Talk of the Town” in 1992.

Tuwanda moved from behind the camera to in front of it as a field reporter for “Talk of the Town” in 2003, six months after being elevated to full-time producer with the show. Tuwanda presents “The Plus Side of Nashville” and the “Talk of the Town” spin-off show “Taste of the Town” for NewsChannel 5+ in addition to her responsibilities with “Talk of the Town.”

Tuwanda is active in the community, serving on the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt Advisory Board, the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences, the Oasis Center, YMCA Black Achievers, Nashville Film Festival, and Youth About Business, among other boards and organizations.

She belongs to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tuwanda was nominated for a Mid-South regional Emmy in 1995 for a series of Black History Month tributes, and she was nominated again in 2007 for her work on a NewsChannel5 program about the hit Broadway musical “The Lion King.”
