While both were students at American University, Yingst began his career as a journalist at News2Share, a media outlet he co-founded with Ford Fischer. Yingst worked at News2Share and reported from Gaza, Ukraine, Rwanda, and Uganda. According to the Los Angeles Times, Yingst was also arrested during a protest in Ferguson. The arrest was later overturned with the help of the ACLU.
He then joined One America News Network, where he was the network’s Chief White House Correspondent for 16 months, covering the Trump administration. In 2017, CNN covered his question exchange with Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in an article titled “An absolutely maddening exchange between Sarah Sanders and the media.” Yingst joined Fox News’ international correspondent team in 2018.
Due to grenades being thrown in their direction, Israeli troops moved Yingst and his crew during a live shot in February 2019. He has also reported while under fire from rockets, some of which occurred while he was live on the air. In March 2019, he was interviewed by Mediaite. Yingst interviewed Jared Kushner in Bahrain during the summer of 2019. In August 2019, he broke the story of the Bonita Queen, an oil tanker who smuggled Iranian oil to Syria. The tanker was approved by the US government two weeks after the Fox News report. Yingst exclusively reported in September 2019 on a classified Iranian base in Eastern Syria capable of storing precision-guided missiles, citing Western intelligence sources. Six days later, the site was targeted again, killing a total of 21 people.
